Celebrate Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day. We should reflect on how we’ve kept our environment green this past year and what we can do to improve our planet. During the year we replaced our light bulbs with compact florescent bulbs (CFLs). There’s no difference in the amount of light in the room; it emulates 100 watts in our living room. The good thing is that it lasts longer. Now this year, we’re going to recycle the CFL’s to our recycling center. We found out that it’s not good to just throw them out. If everyone did this it would be the equivalent of taking hundreds of thousands of cars off the road. You’ve seen the advertisement.

An easy way to start something new this year is to drink green tea. This has tremendous benefits to you. It helps in digestion, weight loss, effective digestion and other such benefits.

Here are some simple ways to become green this year:

1. Turn your heater thermostat down 2 degrees in winter and your air conditioner up 2 degrees in summer.
2. Make sure your walls and ceilings are well insulated
3. Air-dry your clothes in the spring and summer instead of using the dryer
4. Replace bathroom and kitchen faucets with low-flow faucets.
5. Install low-flow showerheads
6. Drive the speed limit
7. Carpool, take public transportation or telecommute one day a week.
8. Replace your old refrigerator with a new energy star one.
9. Go meatless one meal a week.
10. Use natural cleaning products.

Let’s all try to make a greener planet this year. Implement at least 3 of the 10 changes above. Tell me how you’re doing.

Are You Willing To Do Your Share?

Are you worried about global warming? Is your family a part of the problem? Do you want to go green, but you don't have a clue on where to start? Are you confused over which light bulbs to choose or whether you're supposed to wash your clothes in cold or hot water? Do you wonder how to best insulate your house, what appliances are most energy efficient or where you should set your thermostat? Do you want to recycle, but feel like you are being overrun by newspapers, bottles and aluminum cans? Are you thinking of giving up your gas guzzling car for a hybrid? There are so many things to think about to do your share for a safer, cleaner environment.

The green constructed houses in Seattle were destroyed because they still weren't green enough. How much more can we do to ensure that global warming will slow down or even stop? The smallest things you can do, when added with your neighbors, family and friends, can do so much. Statistics show that replacing your lightbulbs with CFL bulbs is equivalent to removing several cars from the road. Even using natural cleaning products takes away harmful chemicals from waste areas, bays and oceans. When we flush harsh cleaning chemicals down the toilet or rinse them down the drain, they go right to the bays, oceans, rivers, etc. Replacing harmful cleaning products with natural products makes so much sense.

2008: The Green Year

With global warming happening all around us, we've all been asked by politicians, news reporters, talk show hosts (and even our parents) to become environmentally aware. To many people that means driving a hybrid car, separating litter into recyclable containers, and carpooling when possible. However everyone can do something every day. In addition to making major changes in order to make a greener environment, we can also make minor, everyday changes. The change I'm talking about is using biodegradable cleaning products. The products you buy in the store contain so many harmful chemicals that buying a hybrid car may offset the damage these store-bought cleaners are doing. By using natural cleaning products you're helping the planet and getting a super clean house. You don't need ammonium to clean the windows. Veriuni's window cleaner can do the same thing with better results. At the same time, you're contributing to a greener, cleaner environment (not to mention a cleaner house!). I doubt that the majority of people will go out and buy a hybrid, but you can be just as heroic by using natural cleaners. Veriuni's cleaners use only natural ingredients, never use test animals, and use pleasant smelling cleansers. Try them out by clicking here:

Let me know how you are keeping the planet clean!
