Celebrate Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day. We should reflect on how we’ve kept our environment green this past year and what we can do to improve our planet. During the year we replaced our light bulbs with compact florescent bulbs (CFLs). There’s no difference in the amount of light in the room; it emulates 100 watts in our living room. The good thing is that it lasts longer. Now this year, we’re going to recycle the CFL’s to our recycling center. We found out that it’s not good to just throw them out. If everyone did this it would be the equivalent of taking hundreds of thousands of cars off the road. You’ve seen the advertisement.

An easy way to start something new this year is to drink green tea. This has tremendous benefits to you. It helps in digestion, weight loss, effective digestion and other such benefits.

Here are some simple ways to become green this year:

1. Turn your heater thermostat down 2 degrees in winter and your air conditioner up 2 degrees in summer.
2. Make sure your walls and ceilings are well insulated
3. Air-dry your clothes in the spring and summer instead of using the dryer
4. Replace bathroom and kitchen faucets with low-flow faucets.
5. Install low-flow showerheads
6. Drive the speed limit
7. Carpool, take public transportation or telecommute one day a week.
8. Replace your old refrigerator with a new energy star one.
9. Go meatless one meal a week.
10. Use natural cleaning products.

Let’s all try to make a greener planet this year. Implement at least 3 of the 10 changes above. Tell me how you’re doing.
